Taking a break from all the great food and fun, we had everyone set up around the grandparents for a large family reunion photo.
I’m somewhat used to a large family. I have a large Sicilian family, and my wife has a large Indian family. Well, I was thrown into another very large Indian family here in New Jersey,and it was both crazy and fun. Avi had contacted me about a get-together, though I didn’t realize how large it would turn out to be. It was a gift setup for his parents and timed for his birthday. Only when I finally showed up, did I see how many came for what I thought was a smaller get-together. The food smelled wonderful, and this was one of those situations where you have very little time to pose, you can’t style, but you try your best to get everyone smiling quickly. I typically meet my clients ahead of time, but this is more like event photography. However, everyone was so gracious and polite and really worked so well in helping me.
Of course, I was really only thinking of the smaller family groups, but then we attempted to pull off the whole family, centered around the grandparents. Now, since the purpose was about the party, organizing is always fun. But again, everyone did so well. Of course, I did end up doing a whole bunch of face/head swaps to get as many fixed up as I could, but this is why you prepare as best you can.
The family hosting (Avi’s immediately family) has a nice metal portrait of the full group in their home, and I thank them for having me photograph them all.
